UC to help national body tackle cyber crime

The University of Canberra (UC) has partnered with the nation's official Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) to tackle cyber security threats head on.UC's Center for Internet Safety will assess the everyday computer risks facing Australian industries, to produce a more accurate picture of the impact of cyber crime in Australia.Center director Nigel Phair says the research is the first of its kind."It will allow CERT Australia to tailor their offering and how they respond to businesses' needs," he said."It'll also help to work out what more research needs to be done, how we inform the public, how we inform businesses of how they can keep themselves in a safe and secure online environment for productivity and survivability."Mr Phair says the research will look at incidents of cyber crime across all sectors."We're going to conduct a survey, which is going to go out to organisations who are involved in Australia's critical infrastructure," he said."[It will] ask them what are the threats, the vulnerability, the risks that they're facing in an online environment."It's an important element of improving, the collective capacity to mitigate and manage cyber security risks."http://au.sports.yahoo.com/news/uc-help-national-body-tackle-084526843.html
